Ford Urges Swift Action on Tax Cuts and Crime Bill
President Ford denounced a political test of wills by Democratic leaders and pressed Congress to focus on 74 administration proposals. He urged swift action on tax cuts, health protection, swine flu vaccination, school busing limits, and anti crime measures as Congress returns from recess to finalize the unfinished agenda. He warned against holiday for good government while emphasizing public service. Senate leader Mansfield dismissed the charge. Ford listed priorities including Social Security integrity, block grants, regulatory reform, energy, and defense cost-saving measures.
