Medal of Honor Winner Joins Marines After Civilian Job Rejection
Medal of Honor recipient Sgt Richard A Pittman 24 of Stockton California rejoined the Marines after failing to find police work due to a childhood eye defect. In a brief ceremony Col Richard Newport swore him in with wife Gerri and 14 month old twins present. Pittman expected to attend Recruiters School at Parris Island and said he would go wherever the Marines send him. His citation notes valor on July 24 1966 when he helped stop an enemy attack while armed with multiple weapons.
