In Modesto California about 200 poor families faced a bleak Christmas until attorney in Newmark secured a temporary court order to release 20 000 pounds of surplus food. Volunteers transported canned goods flour raisins rice peanut butter butter cheese powdered eggs and milk to distribute after long lines and exhausted supplies.
