Court orders no Attica brutality injunction reversed
A federal appeals court in Manhattan on Wednesday ordered a preliminary injunction to prevent torture or brutality at Attica State Prison. The court reversed Judge Curtin’s denial, directing the injunction unless the state proves adequate steps to prevent recurrence. Prisoners' testimony supported brutality claims but the court noted little evidence of physical abuse after Sept. 14 and warned safeguards must be proven to halt possible reprisals.
