Arcadia has avoided the worst of the Spanish influenza, though nearby Rocktown reports Mexican cases in unquarantined homes. The illness claimed Mrs. Charles Reynard and Mrs. Gallagher, with the latter’s death marking the city’s first. Health officials struggle as quarantines rely on county measures and Rocktown cannot be controlled.
Frank Timmer from Berrie Pa and Ol lie Geiger wed in Venice on Tuesday. Miss Geiger becomes Mrs Frank C Timmer of Arcadia living on his ranch afterward. Congratulations are being extended. W S 8 describes a Radiant fire heater for open fireplaces at the Gas Office.
The State Council of Defense urges merchants and the public to mail and ship Christmas presents by the end of November to avoid December blockades due to weather and war shipping. Arcadia health officer Dr. Chas D. Gaylord, resident of Monrovia, submitted his resignation to the city trustees. The action may occur at the November 6 meeting. Reported dispute centered on allowing The Outpost theater to admit soldiers during the Spanish influenza epidemic. the theater is not operating. Gaylord remains in office until the resignation is acted upon.

W. D. Millard has returned from the north with 21 registered Holstein cows to enter the dairying business. He plans to sell milk to wholesalers and reenter the trade in a substantial way.
