Monrovia financial house declines comment on personnel connected to the Baldwin interests, stating the matter will not be discussed.

First National Bank of Arcadia Charter Sought

Jno IL Battle of Monrovia and others filed for a charter for The First National Bank of Arcadia in Washington. Mr Bartle and W A Chess as well as other Arcadia business interests led the effort and said the organization is not completed yet. Mrs Anita Baldwin’s possible interest was not disclosed. Arcadia plans a rapid growth next year.

William N. Waldo a 50 year old Des Moines retired real estate dealer was struck by an auto as he stepped from behind a street car at Washington street and Eighth avenue He died almost instantly Detectives Bowe and Taylor released the driver John T Butler on his own recognizance saying the accident was unavoidable

Burglars Loot Duarte Home Of R F E Golder

Burglars looted the Duarte residence of R F E Golder on a recent Monday night, stealing papers jewelry clothing and cash valued near a hundred dollars. A pry mark was found on a side window and several items later turned up in an orange grove nearby. Items included three tailor suits a Colt revolver two badges from Denver yesterday and letters from Juvenile Judge Ben Lindsey and the Colorado Humane Society.

Movie Benefit Plan for Arcadia Sunday School

Arcadia hosts a Tuesday movie benefit at the Colonial Theater Monrovia with showings at 2 30 7 and 9 pm Tickets for children under 12 are two cents and others fifteen and twenty cents Autos to shuttle children from schools depart at 3 pm from each school and transportation from the church at 6 45 pm requested Volunteers with spare seats are asked to bring their autos by the church.

Arcadia Voter Registration Figures Revealing Low Numbers

Only 312 voters are registered in Arcadia for the upcoming municipal election, per a report to city clerk Miss Ethel Grimes from the county registrar. Sample ballots are being printed and mailed next week. The Arcadia P T A met at First Avenue School to sew for Red Cross. the April meeting will include Junior Red Cross volunteers and a guest speaker.

The Pacific Electric says government limits on steel rails prevent extending from La Mancha Park to the Baldwin ranch in Arcadia. O A Smith, PE general passenger agent, discussed routing and wartime constraints with Pasadena leaders. He noted possible service to a balloon school camp and potential commuter patterns for cadets and workers.

Dunlap Sells Orange Ranch to Pohlman in Monrovia

A. M. Dunlap sold his ranch at 730 West White Oak Avenue to C. F. Pohlman of Ellsworth Kansas. The property includes an eight room house, one and a half acres of ground with citrus fruit and berries, a barn and garage. The Pohilmans arrived from Kansas to California and chose Monrovia. Dunlaps will remain.

Arcadia Freshmen Edge Grammar School In Impromptu Meet

On a Wednesday afternoon Arcadia freshmen from Monrovia High School faced the local grammar school in an unplanned track meet. Wendell Stewart led the high school team with multiple first place finishes while the grammar boys claimed more event wins.

Arcadia Trustees Move To curb shacks and vendors

Arcadia city officials directed city attorney Walter F. Dunn to draft a building ordinance to prevent shacks and cheap restaurants along Arcadia drives as thousands of soldiers arrive. A special meeting next Wednesday will read the ordinance and a license rule to curb hawkers may follow to ease disruption during the expected building boom around the balloon school.

Balloon School to Rise at Arcadia Under Hensley

Arcadia awaits a Washington order to establish the balloon school led by Lieut Col W N Hensley Jr. The lease for Baldwin field is expected soon and construction will start with quarters sought near the camp. Mrs Baldwin’s generosity and civic leaders support the project as the War Department advances the plan for the era’s largest balloon training site.
