A fierce Gulf hurricane devastates Mobile and nearby towns causing about 15 deaths and multi‑million losses. Martial law locks down the city as docks, ships, and warehouses flood or wreck. Losses include hotels, churches, and wholesale firms with widespread business halts and rising labor pay.
In a letter to the Evening Star Col W T H McKleroy of Anniston National Bank urges voters to reelect Thomas F E Kilby as mayor, arguing the heated race serves no public good and praising Kilby as capable and impartial. He says there should be no opposition and commends Kilby’s public service.
City court grand jury adjourned after completing its business. True bills returned were five and 405 witnesses were examined. Notable recommendations include improving county public roads and employing a practical road supervisor.
Merchants contest ends at sundown with results to be announced in Monday's Evening Star. Voters must send weekly vote lists to the Star office by 10 a.m. Monday.
Articles filed in probate court establish the Anniston Publishing Company with 15000 paid in capital of 25000. It will publish the Anniston Evening Star and Anniston Weekly famile and operate a general printing business. Officers include Gordon president Crook vice president and Meee secretary treasurer. McKee named general manager and editor duties to Gordon.
The Pittston Gazette reports Elmer B McKee of Towanda leaves the Towanda Daily Review and Towanda Printing Company to become general manager of a newspaper group in Anniston Alabama He has served since 1885 at the Review and since 1903 as Towanda Printing Company manager and treasurer The piece credits his business acumen for the Review s success and lauds his moral standards and public spirit.

The bronze equestrian statue of George Washington was dedicated on the Brooklyn plaza at the Williamsburg Bridge. Gift to New York from Congressman James R. Howe funded by Kings County fees, the work by M H Shrady shows Washington at Valley Forge, horse and rider rising 17 feet above ground and weighing about 7 000 pounds, larger than any other bronze statue in the city.
