Birmingham observes a day of funerals for 38 Shiloh church panic victims with 105 dead and 100 identified. Widespread grief fills negro churches as processions accompany hearses to cemeteries. A burial fund of 500 is raised by white churches and wealthy patrons to aid the bereaved.
Washington reports the Department of Agriculture will dispatch ten experts to the cotton belt to verify every shipping point and record accurate yields. Secretary Wilson authorizes investigation to resolve discrepancies with commercial estimates and improve future crop reports.
Melreath Drug Co plans a return to business in Anniston opening a first class, up to date drug store on Noble Street. The store will offer patent medicines at discount prices and aims to rival Birmingham and Atlanta. The firm includes Lindsey L. Scarbrough and J. W. McKilreath.
State Superintendent Harry E. Gunnels will publish on October 1 the dividend showing the amount of public money apportioned to Alabama schools and districts. The total appropriation this year is larger, aided by local taxation under the new constitution, with hope to raise funds for at least nine months of schooling.

An excursion from Wilmington to Columbia on the Atlantic Coast Line wrecked at Florence last night when a Wadesboro freight crashed into the returning excursion section. Twenty to sixty passengers sustained bruises cuts and other injuries as they were tossed in the cars and waited for aid. Engineers Bowser and Bissett suffered minor injuries.
Carrie Histon shot and killed her husband Dave Histon at their Furnace Row home yesterday around 3 PM with a single barrel shotgun. He died instantly from a throat wound. Histon was arrested and jailed. grand jury to hear the case soon. The motive remains disputed with theories of racial grievance and an old grievance.
