A crowded electric train plunged into the sea at Atlantic City and 80 people were reported dead or missing. Rescue crews searched the wreckage as officials investigated the cause of the disaster at the popular seaside resort.
A passenger recalls a woman who saved herself then dove to a sunken car to pull out three men including her husband as the West Jersey and Sea Shore line tragedy near Atlantic City leaves 66 dead and two score seriously injured. Divers will identify more bodies from submerged cars.
Mary Hovey 85 longtime Anniston resident died at 5 this morning at the home of her grandson in law E N Gates 909 Highland avenue of heart failure. Funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 pm at the Gates residence with burial at Hillside cemetery Rev R Y Hannon officiating. Surviving grandchildren include Mrs W H Crabtree Mrs E N Gates and George I Finch of Birmingham.

Report from Tokio states over 800 Japanese fishermen were drowned off Gato island during a hurricane. Hundreds more were injured as 266 coral fishing vessels were lost. only 38 survived the storm.
Talladega October 29 The first turpentine distillery in the county has been started near Rendalia ten miles south From this point a twenty mile range of pine covered mountains lies with water abundant and close railroad access The distilleries will soon be located along this favorable tract Previously there were scattered distilleries but they did not produce turpentine

Probate Judge Emmett F. Crook issued a warrant for Doss Baker on horse stealing charges. The victim is A. E. Cooper of West Anniston. Baker reportedly stole Cooper’s horse, was arrested in Oxford, fined for drunken disorderly conduct and for bringing stolen property into the city, and will be brought to county court for trial.
Mr Isaac T Houser, recently back from Cuba where he studied artificial stone, has bought land near Birminghams new terminal and will move there to build a Birmingham Architectural Stone Company plant He will split time between Birmingham and South Anniston retaining his local plant and services The move is met with regret in Anniston as he departs part time
