In police court J L Talley faced a Sunday drunk charge and public indecency. He received a $27.50 fine for the intoxication and $51.50 plus 30 days on the streets for indecency. Companions, including John Maddox, were also implicated in the incidents.
The event runs from October 25 in New York to November 3 in Atlanta under American Automobile Association rules. It covers nine states and 1050 miles with prices listed as 3400 for good roads and 1700 for competing owners. The tour may influence the Birmingham to Atlanta highway as a future connector between northern and southern cities, with a stop in New Orleans along the way.

Judge Thomagy W. Coleman of the City court orders Tom Kirkpatrick to be hanged in the county jail yard on December 7, 1909, by Sheriff W. C. LeGrand, for the July murder of Jim Vaughn in Iron City. The trial produced strong evidence of deliberate murder with no noted chance of stay. This marks Calhoun county’s first execution since 1904 when Andrew Burton was hanged.
An auto tour aims to promote public support for the National Highway project and the good roads movement. About twenty cars start from Herald Square with a 1000 mile route through nine states, testing endurance and vehicle performance. The event continues on page four.
A presidential party departs Dallas for a river trip aboard the steamboat Oleefeander from St Louis at 5 p m Monday. Governors of 25 states and many lawmakers accompany the party with speeches planned in Cape Girardeau Cairo Sickman Memphis Helena Natchez Baton Rouge New Orleans and other stops as they attend the Deep Waterways convention.
Rev. George D. Harris and M. Alexander spoke at Alexandria at 1 p.m. Saturday to urge constitutional prohibition. A large crowd attended with nearly all in favor, and Alexander spoke again at Peaceburg to a strong audience. The piece frames prohibition as a moral cause, not politics, and notes growing support.
The Predestinarians of Alabama Presbyterian College earned praise from Dr. J. W. Stagg as they prepare to travel to Marion and Greensboro after a strong show against Birmingham High School. President Taft arrives in St Louis after a 24 hour Dallas run and is greeted by locals. He attends a 11 o'clock Coliseum address to 15 000, breakfast with the Commercial Club, lunch with the Business Men's League, then continues toward New Orleans for waterways talks.
Supreme Court adjourned at noon in memory of Justice Peckham who died yesterday. Judge Horace Lurton and Elihu Root are mentioned as Peckham's possible successors.
In New York on October 25 a riot erupted after striking pie bakers were attacked by sympathizers. One man was fatally shot and several others were seriously injured as police confronted the mob.
In Ogdenburg New York on October 24 Mrs Robert McIntyre their son John and a farm laborer were killed when the McIntyre home burned last night. The burned ruins yielded the three victims bodies.
Robert J. Reid, convicted in City court on October 16 for bigamy, had a motion for a new trial denied. Judge Coleman said the State’s documentary evidence proved guilt beyond doubt and the trial was fair. Reid received a three year penitentiary term.
Frederick Gobhardt, identified as Otto Mueller husband of Anna Mueller, confessed to the murder of Anna Mueller near Tulip New York. Gobhardt, subjected to intense interrogation, admitted the crime and was linked to the “Bluebeard” rumors about nine missing wives.
New York October 25. Tammany begins eight day campaign for mayor as over a thousand meetings are planned by Barnard Republicans. Gaynor for Tammany and Hearst for the Civil Alliance also boast numerous rallies. Republicans forecast Barnard about 280000 votes while Alliance backs Haste wall.
