Mrs. Jefferson Davis widow of the Confederate president is dying of pneumonia at the Hotel Majestic in New York. Ill for several days a sudden decline was reported after her return from the Adirondacks where she spent the summer. Doctors said death was near after she reached town on a day she contracted a severe cold.

Brick work under way for Noble street paving project
Brick are today being piled for the bithulithic paving to be laid on Noble street. Preparatory to this work the machinery of the Southern Bithulithic Company is being operated daily turning out material. Mr. Arne, superintendent of the road construction, says grading will start in about a week. Bricks will be laid in an 8 inch grade.
