The administration of the oath by Jones drew a large crowd as spectators and officials witnessed the formal swearing in. The ceremony featured a solemn oath, clear vows, and a sense of public significance.

Carl Magee a waiter in a Denver restaurant at 174 Curtis Street plans to marry Miss Echel Ryner of Aspen Wyoming. Ryner, valued at about 50000 in her own right, met Magee during her Denver visit, where he slipped a marriage proposal inside a luncheon ham sandwich. Magee left for Aspen after the note was discovered.
Bloomington police arrest Solomon Golden alias Morris Hermas a Russian Jew famed as the million dollar beggar. He travelled from San Francisco to the East soliciting alms from Jews, netting about 150 a city and claiming a 25 000 total take. He carried a bank book showing thousands in deposits and express receipts as proof of earnings. He pleaded guilty to vagrancy, receiving six months in jail and a 100 fine.
Col William H Denson will speak in Anniston Tuesday at 12 o clock in the city court room. He will discuss the constitution and present the reasons for the new constitution. He is willing to share time with any opposing speaker.
The remains of ex chief of police J. M. Prather, who died at his Glen Addie home, were laid to rest at Edgemont cemetery at 3 p m after services at 2 p m by Rev T B Haynie. Knights of Pythias protected the ceremony and Calhoun lodge No 46 membership noted. City policemen served as pallbearers and many friends attended.
A report from Sapt. J. C. Glack of Reform School Prantytowe West Virginia dated October 18 1900 states after trying all advertised cough medicines they will use Fo ley's Honey and Tar exclusively. He calls it the most effective and absolutely harmless.
Representative Thompson presented Captain John B. McDonald of the Third Cavalry to President Roosevelt, recommending a brigadier general promotion for exceptional service. McDonald was wounded in the Philippines last spring during an assault on insurgents led by General Tutu, whom he captured.

Lorenzo Snow, fifth president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, died suddenly at the Bee-Hive House in Salt Lake City after a brief illness. A pioneer organizer of Utah, he led the overland migration in 1848, helped found Brigham City, and served in the Territorial Legislature. He became church president on September 13, 1898, succeeding Wilford Woodruff.
