Galveston Endures Record Rainfall and Flooding

Galveston suffered the heaviest rainfall in its history with 14.08 inches in fourteen hours ending at 12:30 p.m. and 3 inches more by 5 p.m. Strong east winds reached 42 mph at 11:30 a.m. Streets flooded, traffic halted, and Strand buildings took on water. The tide stood two feet above normal with no saltwater intrusion. Damage estimated later.
