Former Governor Thomas 868 has been appointed by executive action to fill the judgeship vacancy created by Judge John Bruce. The announcement was made in Montgomery on October 7 as a party meeting concluded. Republicans expressed disappointment with the decision.
A fragment reports Walter telegraphing the Adver8 about a Saturday night decision to announce a patient’s appointment. The piece frames it as a precedent for President Roosevelt and his federal appointments, noting the policy as an example of good standing in federal service.
A Saturday rumor claims Former Governor Thomas G. Jones was named to succeed the late Judge Bruce as United States District Judge. Telegrams from Mrs. Pelham of Anniston sparked early congratulations though Jones had no official confirmation.
Gomer y Alabama October 7 The first state reunion of Confederate Veterans in Alabama will be held November 13 and 14. It is expected that about three thousand veterans will attend, along with many visitors drawn by reduced railroad rates and extensive preparations for entertainment of the veterans.

Naval hero Richmond Pearson Hobson faces trouble over relics from Manila found in the Philippines. He sought free entry by claiming government ownership, planned to donate them to Alabama, but customs and navy officials questioned the legality, delaying a planned historical ceremony. Congress may be needed to resolve duties or allow the donation.
A large audience attended the annual Odd Fellows religious service in the auditorium yesterday with four hundred members in regalia from Blue Mountain Lodge No. 16 and other lodges. Rev W W Scott preached on Quit Ye Like Men noting real manhood through charity and godly traits. The Oxanga Lodge, four months old, shows rapid growth with about one hundred members and strong prospects.
C W Martin was arrested Sunday night on two larceny warrants. He allegedly stole a diamond stud button from C L Burgess and a pair of gloves from P P Jackson. A concealed weapon charge was added after knuckles were found on him. Bond set at 250 in each case. he awaits city court action. Martin, said to have come from Rome, lodged with Jackson and Burgess. He claims the stud was found and he took the gloves as a joke.
An attack on C. F. Collier of Cherokee Iowa nearly proved fatal through kidney disease. He suffered severe pain and could not sleep or sit comfortably until Electric Bitters cured him, restoring health, purifying his blood, and easing backache. 50¢ at Kiam Drug Stove. Cigars at Levi's.
