Robinson, the man accused of criminally assaulting a young girl in Mobile, was brought to Birmingham today and placed in jail for safekeeping to protect him from a mob that attacked the Mobile jail last night.
Mob clashes with deputies at Mobile county jail during attempt to capture Dick Robinson. Officer Roy Hoyle is killed and Alderman Silney Lyons is wounded. Governor orders three militia companies from Evergreen Fort Deposit Brewton to scene. suspect captured within three hours.
Special to the Star Alexandria Oct 3 There will be an ice cream supper at Miss Mary Martins Friday night for the benefit of the Baptist Orphanage home at Evergreen Ala Everyone invited.
On the eve of the Democratic state convention in Tremont Temple District Attorney John B Moran seems assured of the gubernatorial nomination. Moran already carries Independence League support and is favored to win with the backing of the Hearst organization. Conservatives led by Josiah Quincy struggle to field a rival and briefly settled on Henry M Whitney before reconsidering.
At a Parker Memorial church Darnen Bible Class meeting held in the Barnen reading room last evening, officers were elected for six months. B. M. Stradley as president and Ben R. Sawyer as vice president led a financial report showing 213.99 received and 207.30 disbursed with a 6.69 balance.
Vienna October 3 A new rule on the Bavarian railway forbids smoking in ladies only compartments even with passenger consent. The minister of railways announces the measure after frequent complaints of ladies smoking in the compartment set aside for them driving ladies to nonsmoking cars with men present.
A Church of Christ audience heard Mr. J. C. Coggins present The Greatest Library in the World. He described the Old Testament as a kindergarten of religion and Christ as the fulfill ment of all Law, inviting all to hear tonight on The Two Adams and Their Wives.
Miss Mattie Irene Cooley of Gadsden marries Mr Tom Stringfellow of Anniston at 3 30 this afternoon in Gadsden. Rev J H Foster officiates. The bride, known in Anniston, plans a month long honeymoon to Washington New York Niagara and other stops before settling in the city.
Mayor Kilby urges citizens to gather tomorrow at 12 o clock in the county courthouse to consider aiding sister city Mobile. The meeting aims to discuss the storm’s harrowing damages and mobilize relief efforts for Mobile as reported in the latest dispatches.
President Roosevelt will depart Washington at 7 30 am for Harrisburg Pennsylvania where the new state capitol will be dedicated and he will address the gathering. He will lunch with Governor Pinchot and Keystone State notables then proceed to York to address the county fair on return he will reach Washington at 7 30 pm.

The president spoke with Judge Charles H. MaFeong and decided to send Mr Magoon to Cuba. Beekman Winthrop, former governor of Porto Rico, is likely to be provisional governor of Cuba and Judge Magoon will go to the Philippines as vice governor.

The North Alabama Good Roads Association plans a Birmingham meeting on October 17 with strong attendance expected. U S Public Roads Director I W Page letters support road improvement in the South and pledge help. Congressman J H Bankhead to speak and F Crook names delegates to participate.
Gen C Irvin Walker of Charleston Illinois visits to spur a memorial for the Women of the Confederacy. Supplements in Alabama papers will publish historic material, edited by Dr Thomas M Owen, with advertising space sold to fund the tribute. Walker, a leading United Confederate Veterans official, praises women's heroism and devotion alongside the Confederate legacy.
The Salvation Army will assume control of a 128 acre tract eight miles north on the Jacksonville road, recently tendered by Mrs Adkins to the Army via Col William Peart. Of the land 18 acres are cultivated with a mineral well on site, and the Army may enlarge the buildings for an orphanage or rescue home while possibly subdividing the land for distressed city residents.
Georgia holds a bicentennial election with Hoke Smith expected to win the governorship and Democratic ticket assured. Socialists led by J B Osborne offer the only opposition, while voters cast ballots on constitutional amendments creating a state court of appeals and selecting three chief judges for that court.
A blast at the Maryland Steel furnace cover at Sparrow Point in Baltimore today killed four men and injured eight, with one of the injured expected to die. The explosion followed the cover’s displacement during the morning.
