Bounties Found For Spanish War Veterans In Brooklyn
A Brooklyn lawyer uncovers that every volunteer from the Spanish American War may claim bounties of 276 dollars each, split between state and federal law. State law provides 84 dollars and federal 192 dollars. The discovery could cost New York about 2 million and the federal government about 5 million, with 5,000 claims likely to be approved without extended contest. The issue is before Attorney General Knox and Judge John Sexton and may be settled within ten days.

Negro Man Killed This Morning At the Washer
Lucius Cunningham a twenty year old Black man was killed this morning at the Woodstock washers near the L and N and Southern railroads. He lost control of a brake on an ore car and the car dashed forward for about a quarter mile then struck an empty car. Cunningham was crushed and mangled. His body was taken to the Undertaking Department of the Aun nisten Furniture Company.

Miss Laura Lemly, 45, sister of Judge Advocate Lemly of the Schley Court of Inquiry, was burned to death at her Salem home when her clothing caught from a kitchen stove. She died within hours in the house fire.
