Marcus Sheehan, a guard on the Southside Elevated road, was shot and killed by James Berganus, a State street restaurant owner, after dispute over 5 cents. Berganus fled. he was still at large.
Washington officials at the naval observatory plan a global New Year greeting using signals to mark the exact start of the year. The program aims to reach continents and distant possessions with cable and telegraph links, contingent on foreign government cooperation. Last year midnight signals reached Lick Observatory in six one hundredths of a second from Washington.

Former Commander Richmond Pearson Hobson has drafted a bill urging Representative Wiley to introduce it in the new session. The proposal calls for a total appropriation of 2.75 billion dollars to build a growing fleet over years, starting with 50 million this year and rising by ten million annually to 1915, then 1.8 billion to 1925 for continuing the program.
Adolph Walz, a former servant of Mrs. William Harrison of Glenside, was arrested in New York on Thanksgiving Day theft charges for robbing jewelry worth $20,000. The haul included a $15,000 pear necklace. Walz, who had worked only two months, disappeared with the family. police recovered nearly all pieces on his person at arrest.
Hlon H L Stevenson from Jacksonville is in the city today on business. Mr. C P Langford a successful planter from the county’s upper portion is in the city today. Mr Charlie Gammon of Rome spent yesterday in the city with friends.
W T Williams, night dispatcher at Louisville and Nashville in this city, resigns to become chief dispatcher for the Mobile Jackson and Kansas City railroad at Mobile. He is succeeded by J G Knox, formerly a copyist. Williams is a veteran railroad man and is wished success in his new post.
The annual report of the commissioner of internal revenue shows for the Alabama district the fiscal year totals: 323,136 in collections, 112 illicit distilleries seized with 155 arrests, 97 cigar factories, 6,232,584 cigars manufactured, and tax payers including 8 rectifiers, 253 retail liquor dealers in malt, and 232 retail dealers in oleomargarine.
A split develops within the Fourth District Republican executive committee with two meetings planned. The Lily Whites meet at Judge G B Randolph’s office in the city, while administration members gather in Calera at 5 p m. The faction claims dominance and vows action will be recognized.
A report from Robinsonville Mississippi states George Jenkins a Black man shot and killed Herbert Cifton a popular young farmer at Banks in Tunica County yesterday. The killing is described as unprovoked and large posses are pursuing Jenkins as authorities plan further action.

Mr. E. F. Reid and Miss Renna Ridehouser were married in the office of Private Judge Crook this afternoon. Deputy Clerk Al Morgan informed the ceremony. The couple reside in the northern part of the county.
Mrs H N Austin wife of the well known architect died at the family residence on Wilmer avenue yesterday afternoon after several days illness. She leaves a husband a son Harry Anastio and other relatives. Remains to be sent to Jacksonville for interment with funeral tomorrow morning.
Jack Jones, a negro, was tried before Crook this morning on a charge of lunacy and adjudged insane. He will be carried to the insane hospital at Mount Vernon this week. Jones was formerly confined in the asylum, but escaped. Recently he became very insane and chased parties in the Jacksonville area with a gun.
A portion of the Stevenson farm has been sold, but about 500 acres remain for sale. Located about halfway between Anniston and Jacksonville in Calhoun County, the 740 acre property is described as highly desirable. Interested buyers should contact H. L. Stevenson in Jacksonville, Alabama.
Reports from Victor B C confirm a massive typhoon off Swatow on November 4. Hundreds of fishing junks were destroyed or disabled and thousands of sailors are feared dead or missing. Rescue efforts by the Hong Kong government and naval units saved several dozen survivors and towed vessels for aid.
Avery Turner and Albert Jelks were brought to the city and jailed on a murder charge after being arrested in Jacksonville by L P Carpenter and Sheriff Woodruff. They are charged in the death of Robert Harris near Jacksonville. Two others, Robert Carr and Thomas Black, are in jail on similar counts and all face a hearing before Judge Crook on Wednesday.
