On Thursday night in Montgomery the Ninth Separate Battalion of 616 Nexroes sparked fear with rumors they were captured by white mobs. Police and military police arrested all visibly present Negro soldiers in the city and at Camp Sheridan as confusion spread.
British forces under General Haig press a second assault this week toward Westroosebeke and Roulers from Passchendaele ridge. German resistance remains stiff though mines are blown by heavy British shelling. pursuit aims to seal the coastal line from Zeebrugge to Ostend.
A Toledo Red Cross delegation led by A. L. Spitzer and Jay Secor inspected Camp Sheridan and the Ohio Division in training. They noted ideal weather and favorable camp reception while plans for Thanksgiving menus and intensified bayonet training were outlined. Cleveland, November 10. Dr Harry Lorenzo Chapin, a wealthy physician and trotter owner, was killed last night with a heavy window weight at a colonial hotel. Robbery and drugs are cited as motives. A John Doe warrant was sworn, and Chicago is suspected as the getaway hub. The killer is believed to have fled to a Chicago vice ring. Recovered valuables include rings and about $1,500 on the body, with another $4,000 stolen.
