Desperate Encounter With Eagle Leaves Montana Man Wounded
Be., Nov. 8. D. W. Bateman of a Roared Falls ranch fought a large eagle that attacked as it tried to pick up a mallard. The bird nearly killed him with its claws before he and a bystander strangled it. Bateman requires a week or ten days in hospital after multiple stitches to a abdomen wound. The eagle measured nearly seven feet tip to tip.

Mutiny by Convicts at Leavenworth Prison
At Leavenworth Kansas a prison mutiny left one man dead and three others seriously wounded. About 400 federal prisoners under 30 armed guards were at work when the uprising began. Twenty four cavalrymen rode to the scene but convicts escaped before orders could allow intervention. Forty guards remain guarding fugitives.
