D C November 4. Superintendent Machen of the Free Delivery Division predicts the rural delivery service will expand to 1 000 000 square miles nationwide within five years. By December 1 about 6 000 routes will operate, with 1 700 more added by then.
A stranger negro was found this morning near Piedmont five miles from town. He carried about $30 and died after being struck near the railroad tracks, authorities suspect murder. Popeway, another negro, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. on suspicion by Officer Gloss of Harmon.
Hercules Pipe works in Anniston plans to restart with a full force early next year. President H C Weeden, arriving from Boston, said production would begin around March first and that he will stay several weeks to visit friends and inspect Calhoun's new court and local sites.
Ben Ingerson of Hutton Indiana says he had not spoken above a whisper for months yet Foley's Honey and Tar failed to restore his voice. The ad urges readers to try Foley's and notes a druggist's refund if Cascareta fails to cure constipation.
A Lima Ohio engineer from the L. E. X. E. W. R. R. writes that persistent back trouble led him to Foley Kidney Cure. After one bottle he felt relief and recommends it to friends among train men who frequently suffer from similar discomfort.
Special to The Evening Star reports a brutal murder six teen miles north of Oak Level Alabama. T. R. Chandler, a schoolteacher, disappeared on Oct 13 and was found on Steed Mountain with his head severed. A 100 man search led to discovery of a decomposed body under rocks. $80 and $1200 in checks missing. Wright Knighten and a woman arrested. further arrests likely. Sheriff Adame and coroner investigated.
A theater gram noted the change in play would be implemented and that King John is a much more elaborate and costly production than expected to be staged here.
The Farrell Heating and Plumbing Company, led by president D A Farrell, has won several contracts in Georgia and Alabama. New projects include steam heating and plumbing at the Vernon Hotel in Columbus Georgia and the Royal Hotel in Opelika Alabama. Additional work covers the Enterprise cotton mill in Coffee County and the new county courthouse at Ozark.
Probate Judge Emmett F. Crook distributed Confederate pension warrants to Calhoun County recipients. A total of 361 people received payments across four classes with amounts ranging from 37.88 to 18.90 dollars. Recipients cashed warrants at banks or tax collectors as in prior years.
Mr R D McLean and Miss Tyler who were to perform The School for Scandal at Noble Street Theater on Wednesday night will instead present King John a mammoth production with elaborate costumes and scenery. Manager Noble received a telegraph message confirming the change.
The Aniston Carpet Co. enlarges its plant under manager James Buckler. A new building 140 by 52 feet rises to house winding finishing yarns and shipping. Looms rise from 40 to 100 total as ten more loom orders arrive. the weave room touted as premier in the United States. Office and shipping move to the new structure at Eleventh and Mulberry.
At Clearbrook farm four miles north of town Mrs H W Sexton reports a large black vein resembling coal in a cow barn. Tests will confirm if it is coal lignite or iron ore worth up to seven dollars and fifty cents a ton. Researchers expect analysis to reveal real value.
