A massive explosion at the Summock mine forty miles west of Greensboro North Carolina yesterday afternoon killed twenty three miners and injured thirty. Eleven of the dead were white foremen among others who were black. Surgeons reached the site as bodies were recovered and the injured were treated amid heavy mangling. The cause remains unknown.
A mob of about 5000 gathered in Pueblo Colorado and hanged Calvin Kimbleton a Black man accused of murdering two white girls at the Pueblo Orphans Home The crowd swung him from a telegraph pole as police failed to intervene Witnesses cried out as the lynching occurred at 1 o clock this morning.
Police court heard six disorderly conduct cases all were dismissed. The remaining cases related to street tax collection and those who paid were advised to go to the captain's desk to settle.
The Noble Institute marks the end of its commencement season with Judge John Pelham reading Henry D. Clayton’s address after Clayton could not attend. Diplomas were presented by Dr. J. H. Blacklock to graduates Edith Thompson and Virginia Cater, with medals awarded to Stella Huger, Almera Huger, Julia Ware, Helen Doering, and Katherine Walker. A barbecue for faculty, pupils, and guests follows at Judge Pelham’s home.

The Judiciary Committee reports favorably on H R 214 to amend the act for a federal building at Anniston Alabama. The bill authorizes site purchase and construction not to exceed fifty thousand dollars including site, with safeguards for fireproofing and public business needs.
The Senate today approved Senator Morgan's resolution asking the war and navy secretaries for the cost of transport between the United States and Manila since American occupation of the Philippines. The measure aims to illustrate the savings possible from constructing the Nicaragua Canal.
Dr. R L Bowcock has leased to L J Houser a contract to erect a two story brick residence on the northwest corner lot at Quintard avenue and Twelfth street in Anniston. The eleven or twelve room house will be among the handsomest in town.
Mr R H Cobbs Sr and Mr R H Cobbs Jr purchase a lot on Leighton avenue between Twelfth and Thirteenth streets and plan a two story seven room home. Er N Gates will supervise the construction and the design mirrors a neighbor’s new residence.

London reports May 23 that General Hamilton's forces occupied Hielbrow yesterday, about thirty miles from the Vaal river. Roberts' infantry left Kroonstadt Monday and is evidently close behind Hamilton's advance toward the Boers’ supposed stand near the Rhenoster river.
