Congress Approves Nicaragua Canal Bill by 225 to 86
In a stormy session the House passed the Nicaragua canal bill by 225 to 86. J Hepburn and the committee led the victory against attempts to modify fortification language while Cannon and the harbors chairman fought to stall action. A heated exchange between Coburn and Cannon marked the day.

Boers Driven From Strong Position By British Forces
London reports Gen Roberts despatch: Hamilton on Tuesday drove the Boers from a strong position with light British losses. Boers admit twelve killed and forty wounded. among the dead is Lieut. Gunther, a German. Wounded include Moreimoff, commander of the Foreign legion. 21 of 52 Boer casualties were Foreign legion men.

Yesterday J T Gardner and J B Goodwin ordered the machinery for a new $100000 Anniston Yarn mill from Howard and Bullough of Pawtucket Rhode Island. KE Chappelle of the firm signed the contract and the deal was completed promptly. The equipment will be shipped at once and arrive as buildings are ready. The order covers many thousands of dollars and tops modern efficiency.
