The Anniston Trades' Council met at the old Odd Fellows hall in the Smith building and elected officers. Delegates from carpenters painters iron workers pipe fitters clerks and printers attended. Vice President R T House presided, acting as president since H D Sawyer's death.

A Camden special reports Tom Watson and his wife, who sworn falsely against Will Bussey in an alleged rape case, were whipped by Camden citizens. Bussey had faced execution after the false affidavits, but Mrs Watson’s written confession led Governor Davis to suspend the sentence. Watson was then sent south by train with orders not to stop in Arkansas.
The Blue Mountain Chautauqua begins its first annual two week session tomorrow in Anniston and Oxford. Daily programs feature Wurm's Orchestra, Grand Concerts, a male quartet, and Prof N M Ripper on brain building and soul growth. Season tickets cost 3 dollars for adults, 2 for under 14, with day and night session singles listed.

An avalanche roared down in Grant county near Hopeville collapsing the home of Mrs. Andrew Ours. Her 22 year old daughter was killed instantly while Mrs. Ours was fatally injured and grandchild rescued from the wreckage. The child is expected to survive.

Rev John E K Barnard of the First Baptist church plans baptisms starting at 7:30 pm, with about twenty converts from a recent church meeting. Earlier, around 300 converts were baptized last Sunday and more are set to be baptized on four upcoming Sundays.
