In Omaha Helen Wells, twenty, swallowed gun cotton after a quarrel with her sweetheart. Doctors fear operation due to possible explosion while she is bound to a heavy mattress. If no explosion occurs today the substance may dissolve and danger pass. In Columbia South Carolina Gresham Pendelllor killed himself after rejecting by his sweetheart.
A Washington dispatch notes Flag Day celebrated coast to coast marking the 132nd anniversary of the American Flag. States like Illinois Michigan Connecticut Wisconsin Oregon and California proclaimed it a holiday. Flags adorned public and private buildings as schools held patriotic exercises nationwide.
Dr G W Macon of Howard College and A P Montague spoke on denominational education at Parker Memorial Baptist Church. Macon discussed education’s problems and heredity environment, while Montague traced education’s role in American religious history. Resolutions of support were adopted for the college.
Tents sheltering construction crews for the Meteo Valley railroad near Carlyle were struck by lightning last night. Dan Murphy the first assistant engineer and two Smith brothers, William Walters, Jim Doyle, and two unknown men died. In Boston eight crew members of the fishing schooner Nettle Franklin were lost in a fog storm with dories missing.
State department received a cablegram from the minister to Rio de Janeiro announcing the death last night of President Penna of Brazil.
Percy Watters and W R Grogan were arrested at Oxford Lake park Sunday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff Seah Eason for selling liquor. They were jailed in $300 bonds each and a strong case is planned for next Friday before Judge Crook.
Washington June 14 An insurgent revival in the House aims to stiffen radical senators opposing Aldrich. A conference on the tariff bill is set for this afternoon. Champ Clark Missouri minority leader predicts the conference will last under a week and says Democrats cannot alter the will.
New York reports show cotton advancing five to eleven points at the morning start as cables stay strong after rain concerns in the central belt. Steel futures reached a record high of sixty nine and a half, the highest price in history.
Wheat moved up a quarter to a half higher in Chicago trading this morning signaling firmer demand and market momentum for the day.
Secretary of Agriculture Wilson, in Chicago, stated the wheat crop prospects are excellent with farmers rejoicing over expectations of a record breaking year.
Just before adjournment Representative Murphy of Missouri introduced a resolution calling for a report by Indian Inspector Bode on the conduct of Blaid Dehoenfeldt the Indian agent at Muskogee. The measure was adopted.
June 14 General John Counts past commander of the Grand Army of the Republic died at his home here from Brights disease.
New York June 14. Martin Littleton began arguments in circuit court seeking bail release for ex banker Charles Morse. The case is backed by financiers offering bond up to $50 000. Morse was convicted of misapplying funds of the Bank of North America.
J B Wilson of route No 1 Gadsden presented seven Bermuda onions weighing thirteen pounds. He planted one acre and forecasts about 200 bushels harvest despite frost damage. At one dollar per bushel the crop would be profitable if a closer market existed.
William Scott was electrocuted this morning for the 1907 murder of his mother. He was 24, a Norwich resident, and the sentence carried out at Auburn.
In police court Monday Ross Chatman faced charges of assaulting Jim D Turner with a rock and Jim Turner faced disorderly conduct, but neither case was tried due to Turner's absence. Both cases were rescheduled for Tuesday the22nd.

In Boyles near Birmingham on June 14 a dispute over a remark about a woman's coffee led to a deadly shooting. Carper is dead, Will Sparks mortally wounded, W T Kelley seriously wounded. all three men were involved, with Sparks later feared to die. Authorities say more arrests may follow.
Deputy Sheriff John Roland of Anniston escorted Frank Slaton, a Black man arrested here on a charge of disturbing religious worship in Calhoun county, to Anniston.
