General Reyes says he will not seek the Mexican presidency and urges allies to back Francisco Madero. The move is seen by political observers as mending rifts between factions and stabilizing the party factions in Mexico City.
Governor O Neal received four reports from prison inspector Dr Wm H Oates condemning two county jails in Lawrence and Marion counties for lacking modern sanitation and urging new jail construction. He also reviewed Tuscaloosa and Morgan county jails with recommended improvements. Thirty eight cotton mills were surveyed. Coosa Manufacturing in Piedmont rated very good, while several mills in Sylacauga Anniston Girard Lang Lanette and Sosenan Hosiery were rated bad on sanitation.
