Governor Improves But Still In Critical Condition

The governor shows improvement yet remains in danger as doctors monitor his condition. Officials say recovery is uncertain and full stabilization may take time.

In Tuscaloosa on June 8 Governor Samford is reported by physicians to be somewhat better though still very ill. His brother C. A. L. Samford stays beside him while Dr. J. H. Drake and T. D. Samford have returned home. No immediate danger is stated.

Southern Fire Brick Plant to Start 16 000 Daily

The Southern Fire Brick Company led by W A Scarbrough and J J Embry near完成 build expects to begin Monday producing about 16 000 bricks daily. Embry clay from a renowned bank will supply a seemingly unlimited supply. The venture promises steady demand and new jobs in digging, hauling, making, burning and loading brick.

Quintard Avenue Land Company Organized

The Quintard Avenue Land Company organized in Anniston with Howard W. Sexton as organizer and $40,000 capital. Partners include W. H. Weatherly J. C. Sproull J. L. Wikle T. B. Kilby and L. H. Kaplan holding half the stock. The tract near Sixth Street and Quintard Avenue spans twenty seven acres for immediate residential development with eighty lots. The project aims to open Quintard Avenue to Sixth Street enhancing local value and beauty.

Prisoners' Dash for Liberty Narrowly Foiled at County Jail

Six black inmates confined on various charges attempted a breakout about five o clock last night in the county jail corridor. Jailor Tom Self was away. the group rushed from cells when the corridor door was opened but were restrained by the jailer and a trusted woman. The sight of Self's revolver and a frightened lamp bearer kept them in their places. leaders were warned to keep order.

The Amalgamated Association of Iron Steel and Tin Workers adjourned in Milwaukee after electing officers led by President T J Shaffer Pittsburg and naming John Williams secretary treasurer of Pittsburg The next convention will be in Wheeling W Va The key action was adoption of a continuous scale plan for wage settlements extending conference time and setting deadlines for negotiations and possible walkout with mills to close if no agreement is reached
