Southern Car and Foundry receivership sparks resumed operations
The Southern Car and Foundry Co in Anniston is placed in the hands of receiver T A Gillespie of New York. Operations are to restart next week with machine shops running today and payrolls due tomorrow. The conflict between majority and minority stockholders prompted the filing, with plants in Alabama and Tennessee, including Birmingham offices, under receivership to settle disputes and stabilize finances.

Mr FE B Greenleaf of Huntsville will open the eastern division clerk’s office for the northern district. The site is the county courthouse in Huntsville with furniture being installed today. The Anniston division will include Clay, Calhoun, Cleburne, Cherokee, Talladega and Etowah counties with staff yet to be named.

Washington July 17 The State Department reported Russia will not receive or consider the Jewish petition on Kishinev massacre. American charge Riddie in St Petersburg conveyed Russia’s stance. Winnipeg Manitoba July 17 P M Arthur grand chief engineer of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers died suddenly at midnight while speaking at the banquet closing the convention. He rose to toast and said it may be my parting words to many of you then collapsed and died a few minutes later.
