Maine Will Be Tested Thursday
New York dispatch reports the Maine, built at Cramp’s shipyards since 1899, will leave for trials Thursday off the Delaware capes and likely return to the yard Friday. The battleship, aimed to be the fastest in Cramp’s output, must reach eighteen knots, like the Russian Retvizan. Laid February 15, 1899, launched July 27, 1901, the Maine measures 388 feet long, 72 feet 24 inches beam, 24 feet 10 inches draft, and 12,500 tons displacement.
