G H Malone of Dothan led a delegation at the sixth federal reserve district convention in Montgomery to oppose a split in officer elections but the motion was tabled and his group left declaring the meeting improperly called by Chattanooga. J K Ottig of Atlanta was elected temporary chairman.
John B LaGarde of this city has been nominated to the organization committee of the regional reserve bank at Washington as a candidate for membership on the regional bank directorate. The government located the post in Atlanta and Alabama bankers meeting in Montgomery support a ticket for Atlanta bank directors. LaGarde is a Class B nominee for business men and farmers, with no banking ties allowed on the board.
Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst was arrested for the eleventh time as she left the offices of the Women's Social and Political Union to inaugurate a new campaign. She was taken to Holloway jail and still has more than half of a three year sentence to serve.
Early this morning in Ayr Scotland militant suffragettes attempted to bomb the birthplace of Robert Burns but were halted by vigilant guards. The women were seen placing a bomb under the poet’s house and stopped before lighting the fuse.

General instruction in forest conservation is to be given to more than 5,000 school teachers from every state at the American Forestry Association mid summer meeting in Chautauqua New York. Lectures will cover loss from fires and films will show firefighting methods and forest protection patrols. Speakers include Captain J B White Dr H R Fernow Charles Stathrop Pack and Dr Hepty S Drinker.
New York July 8. Ellswood Bartles an insurance agent testified that a woman in a dark skirt and white waist trod the Carman lawn after the shot. He linked Mrs. Carman to spying on her husband via a dictograph and to plans to use it for domestic troubles. The eight year old daughter testified about the piano and what she was told. The inquest closed with no verdict yet announced.
H B Long baugh and Charles Armstrong, oil well shooters, were killed when 200 quarts of nitroglycerine exploded aboard their auto near Buckland. The blast destroyed the vehicle, damaged several houses, and shattered window glass for miles.
The senate voted 61 to 7 to retain the $500 000 appropriation in the sundry bill for erecting the government building at the San Francisco exhibition grounds after a sharp attack by Senator Vardaman of Mississippi.
Montgomery July 8 Governor O Nea l paroled Charles Bezel convicted of second degree murder and Will Watson serving a sentence for violating the prohibition law. Both men are from Talladega.
New York reports direct negotiations for peace in Mexico will begin in a few days. A provisional president will be chosen and a general amnesty declared nationwide. Leaders promise to suppress mob violence and arrange for a peaceful transition, with peace delegates to be sent by the constitutionalists.
In St Paul Minnesota on July 8 1930 the International Educational association chose Dr David Star Jordan of Stanford University as president elect. The unanimous vote follows approval from Dr David B Johnson of Rock Hill who notes the election will be held tomorrow.

A shark attack in New Orleans leaves Bensento Lopes mortally injured as a 14 foot shark and 30 fish entangle in a net. Lopes loses both legs before escape.
Dispatches from Mexico City say General Pena, former minister of war in Madero's cabinet and recent commander of federal troops outside Vera Cruz, has arrived in the capital. A Carlos Fifth representative says Huerta will turn the capital to Pena. Mutiny near Vera Cruz has been quelled with some mutineers captured or executed while others fled.
President Wilson defended his appointee Paul Warburg to the Federal Reserve Board in a White House statement. He praised public spirited men who volunteer to serve the country despite personal sacrifices and urged honor for such service.
New Orleans authorities continued the crusade against rats to stamp out bubonic plague after detecting a second infection zone three miles from the original area.
Atlanta July 8 The McCreary bill to have the state publish school books passed the house after a year of debate but is criticized as emasculated by an amendment that lets underbid text book companies win bids The bill would trial two books next year by contract on competitive bids but allows underbidding to secure contracts The senate also defeated Senator Hixon's eugenic marriage bill and the twin militia measures passed the house creating tension with local military groups A constitutional amendment to form a new county named Candler from Bulloch Tatnall and Emanuel counties also passed the house
After all day sessions in San Francisco the Pacific Coast association for social hygiene reconvened in Berkeley and adopted a single general resolution. The resolution urges all to take up the problem of social hygiene but declares that the conference does not advocate teaching sex subjects in public schools.
Colonel Roosevelt began his political campaign after a rest period and held talks with national and state Progressive leaders. Delegates from Maine Colorado Syracuse pressed him to campaign in their states while discussions continued on Mr Warburg's appointment to the federal reserve board and Senate confirmation prospects for Warburg and Thomas G Jones.
The Rev. Neil Mc Quarrie was found guilty in police court of disorderly conduct and fined 50 dollars. A son of the woman who drove the preacher from her home testified, with neighbors describing the preacher's hasty nighttime departure.
Shaler Houser withdraws from the mayoral contest delaying his bid while Dr. J L Wikle remains likely unopposed for a third term. Houser cites late declaration and pressure on supporters as reasons and notes friends would be embarrassed by misimpressions. New alderman candidate Tom Carter surfaced in the second ward as campaigning continues.
Colonel Wilkinson and associate Maylon Van Booskirk were arraigned before a federal commissioner in Philadelphia on charges of using the mails to defraud. They allegedly promoted a scheme to revitalize Spring City, Tennessee into an industrial rival of New York City, drawing thousands from European and American investors.
