Meanwhile pensioners crowd the Probate office for quarterly warrants, though amounts are small and accepted with thanks.

Dothan July 2 W O Mulkey recently elected from the Third district for the short term in congress was seen with friends in conference. Unofficial figures released show Mulkey ahead of J J Speight by about 1812 votes with majorities in Houston 789 Geneva 722 Dale 419 Henry 400 and Coffee 39 while Speight led Lee 268 Bullock 48 Russell 40 and Barbour 601.
The Alabama supreme court upheld a lower court verdict in the Profile Cotton Mill vs Calhoun Water Company dispute. The case centered on water mains on land near the mill and a temporary restraining order that would have kept water flowing during the suit. Citizens once faced water shortages when pipes were disconnected, as the mill and water company disputed access and ownership.
Preliminary work for a five story office building on Selma street between Broad and Lauderdale will start soon. The structure, to be completed quickly, should be ready by October 1 with ground floor shops and upper offices. It stands near a major intersection and most space is reportedly spoken for. The Mabry Securities Company builds it at an estimated cost of about $30,000.
