Ashington reports a severe heat wave across the eastern half of the country with little rainfall and poor relief prospects for forty hours. Record highs appear in New York 98 and Philadelphia 96, while cities like Chicago 97 and St. Louis 100 also report extreme temperatures. Nineteen deaths and twenty prostrations attributed to heat are tallied in New York, with Pittsburg noting eleven deaths and fifteen prostrations amid many child fatalities.
The Anniston Manufacturing mill is idle for a month as workers install a new engine and boilers. The old machinery had served many years and the plant aims to restore its strong operation and power.
Judge George S Randolph, four years as commissioner of the United States circuit court for the northern district of Alabama based in Anniston, has been re appointed by Judge Bruce as his commission nears expiration. Officers chosen included President Chas Echard Vice President Newton Waites Recording Secretary J A Kenerly Financial Secretary W J May Guide James Barry Inside Guard J Holbrook Outside Guard J Bray Journal Agent J E Livingstone. The event followed a signed scale by Sept Wren and many orders hooked, signaling a positive outlook for Southern Car Co and its employees.

Late Saturday afternoon Mr W Wrenshall acting for the Southern Car and Foundry Co signed the new wage scale with the Amalgamated Association of Iron Steel and Tin Workers and the new scale takes effect today. It raises rolling mill wages about five to six percent from a $4.75 base to $5.00. Several hundred skilled rolling mill workers in Anniston are affected. A new mill in Anniston will organize a local Amalgamated lodge soon, with F Rt Williams expected to arrive from Wittsburg to help organize the mill May join the local union.

Mose Baston, last seen buying goods at the mills, was found beside the track after an apparent night incident. Police investigate possible murder and robbery to explain the crime.
