A gunman wounded Senator William Goebel in the Kentucky Capitol, firing from a second story window. Goebel was taken to the Capitol Hotel for treatment as troops guarded the building and the legislature adjourned. An arrest was made in connection with the attack. Another shooting occurred nearby during the same incident.
Mr 8 M Rogowskie today received a retail saloon license for a Tenth street storefront once used by Pat Allen as a meat market. The council, minus Alderman Rieh, approved the majority report from the police committee and approved the license, with Mr Rogowskie planning to open in about a week and promising orderly operation.

Frankfort Kentucky January 30 It appears United States Senator elect Blackburn will not receive a commission from Governor Taylor until the current gubernatorial contest is resolved. Taylor is said to argue that if he is illegally governor the lawmakers who elected Blackburn were also illegally chosen and lack authority to select a senator.
The Oxford city council approved a franchise for the Annis ton Electric and Gas company to extend service to the city. It is expected the city will also contract for street lighting and provide incandescents in homes and businesses.
Charlie Anderson of Edmondson and Anderson suffered a fracture in the right foot when dislodged from a vehicle. He will use crutches while recovering. The same firm’s Henry Edmondson recently injured his knee cap after a horse kick, leaving both partners temporarily crippled.
