The State examination of school teachers for second and third grade certificates began at 9 30 this morning in the Circuit court room with 41 white and 18 colored applicants, a total of 50. Two seek life licenses and first grade licenses may be tested next Wednesday. Each applicant sits at a private table to prevent cheating and the exam continues through Monday.

Three Murders In Birmingham Yesterday

Birmingham saw three violent deaths yesterday with two white victims and one Black man killed. Irvin J. Marvin, 43, an automobile mechanic, was found on Ninth Street with his throat severed in what police call a robbery murder. E. Pish was shot dead at the Victor hotel by W. C. Sparks after family troubles were cited as motive. Lon Howard, a Black man, shot and killed Bur Hicks in Alley A between 21st and 22nd streets.
