A Montgomery report states Right H. M. Jackson, Alabama Episcopal coadjutor bishop, agreed to resign after rumors of misconduct and alcohol problems. The bishop denied the charges, but a church meeting led to his decision to step down to avoid further controversy.
Southern Railway announces district reshuffle effective January 1. J. H. Barrett promotes H. G. Farrar to train master in Birmingham replacing Hayden. C. L. Ewing moves to Knoxville Division as superintendent, replacing Huger who resigned. Hayden transfers to Anniston Division as superintendent.
Business men of Anniston petition the Louisville and Nashville to grant special round trip Saturday rates from Ronaton to Rock Springs with all intermediate stations. Superintendent W K Knox will forward the request to passenger agent Mr Atsmore. If approved, the rate cut may become permanent to boost local shopping, with a southbound train arriving 12 05 and return at 1 45 staying until 2 55.
High mass was celebrated at the Sacred Heart church as the new year began. The Blessed Sacrament was exposed from noon until midnight and many parishioners attended. Music impressed the attendees with Pope Leo's march played on the organ by Mr. John Dowe.
Mr J J Skelton a leading Jacksonville merchant sold his furniture and undertaking stock and building to Porter & McCormick of Jacksonville. His home place was bought by Mr Smith of Etowah county. He plans to likely pursue business in another city. Include contact for Aniston Ice Co for coal.
Mrs. W. H. Brazelton died yesterday afternoon at her Selma home. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. E. Noyes of this city, planned to attend the bedside, with Mr. Noyes also traveling to Selma for the funeral. The community mourns her loss, and friends here notice the passing. tf.
The Week of Prayer opens this evening at the First Presbyterian church with Rev. Donald McQueen leading. The topic, Prayerful Convisions, urges study of God's Word, Spirit power, saving the Church, outreach, faithful living, and spreading Christ, with services nightly throughout the week led by various city ministers.
