Residents of Anniston are invited to visit on a planned tour from June 19 to July 1, stopping at Huntsville Florence Tuscaloosa Birmingham Selma Montgomery and intermediate points. Organizers promise easy travel and entertainment with a restaurant on Chau tauqua grounds run on business principles.
Washington Feb 28 The senate approved the army appropriation bill with amendments for temporary Philippine government and future U S Cuba relations. Amendments to Spooner franchise and Platt Cuban provisions were debated and voted down amid partisan rhetoric and depictions of the measures as vicious and pernicious.
Carrie Nation left Peoria for Topeka to resume jail life after visiting the Great Western distillery. Peter Casey escorted her through it and she urged him to smash it. She called the distillery hell and touted a miracle salve claiming worldwide cures for various skin and foot ailments.
Montgomery February 28 The text book bill was killed by the Senate after a recommittal to the judiciary committee. The recommit vote was 23 to 8 catching supporters by surprise as they had pledged votes to pass it. Ayes included Acree Arrington Blackmon Bostic Dann Goldsby Hall Hipp Horton Hurst Jenkins Kennedy Meads Norman Nunnelle Pulley Rather Ray Rogers Stevens Stone Thompson Wiley. Nays listed Jelks Bullock Harrison Johnson McCain Morrow Powell Findham. The judiciary committee is opposed and will adverse the bill.
The Greater Anniston bill annexing Oxanna to Anniston was approved by the governor and is now a law. The Calhoun bond bill was also signed, authorizing up to 100000 in bonds to fund a new courthouse and county floating debt.
Mayor Henderson announced the appointed election managers for the municipal election. First Ward C L Quinn, Second Ward J A Wallace, Third Ward C M Hamilton, Fourth Ward J H Edmondon, Fifth Ward John Fitzgerald (formerly Oxanna).
Levi Alley of Jasper Tennessee was riding a horse when an electric car struck him yesterday afternoon in Huntsville. Alley fell on his head and the horse was thrown onto him, likely causing fatal injuries. Coal orders invited for Auniswon Tee Co via phone.
