A Daily Mail dispatch from Pietermaritzburg reports Boers eluding relief near Ngutu with eighty wagons and nine guns. The seizure threatens Eshowe and Ladysmith relief attempts as the bombardment and high death rate threaten Kimberley.
Kimberley lies 20 miles from Modder river in dire straits. December death rates show 60 white and 38 black deaths per 1000 with infant mortality 471 and 912 per 1000 respectively. Entire fever prevalent. garrison strength is being drained as Boer bombardment increases.
Report from near the war office states it will move immediately. Scouts near Mongersfontein trenchments report dwellings inside forts. Native gunners note fewer Boers. In Natal, Boer forces south of the Tugela hold Bold's farm and mines west of Chiveley as two thousand Boers with three guns push through Zululand toward Natal.

The correspondent I Borpers asks for any records of Robinson or his family, noting his wife Susan Collins and an estate she may inherit.
At 7 30 this evening in the city court room the Morea club of Anniston will organize with about 600 members enrolled. Officers to be elected and committees possibly named as plans for a strong Morgan club in the state are advanced. Enthusiastic supporters of Senator Morgan expected to attend in force.
Fire laddies of Daniel Tyler Hose Co. No. 1 held their annual officer nominations at the police hall then hosted a banquet. Chief Frank Brown First Assistant Charlie Kelly Second Assistant G F Robertson Secretary Treasurer W O Ward were reappointed. Mayor Henderson gave a toast. Julius Levy announced spring fabrics and Levy's Woolens stock arrival.
Mr Lough seeks six more ladies voices and one leading soprano, two tenors and one bass for St Michael's and All Angels choir. Also twelve young boys aged 8 to 12. Applicants should contact A H Longle at St Michael's church on Wednesday evening.
On account of Mardi Gras in Mobile Alabama February 26 and 27 1900 the Southern Railway and Alabama Great Southern Railway will sell round trip tickets to Mobile at one fare. Tickets on sale February 20 to 26 with return by March 15 1900. Agents urge proper ticket reads for convenient schedules and service.
