Cold Wave Grips South With Low Readings Across Cities

The southern states face continued frigid weather with Louisville 15 and Anniston 14 as cited readings. Two deaths from exposure are reported in Kentucky near Louisville and near the almshouse area, while other cities such as Montgomery Memphis and Nashville record single digit temperatures. The Anniston temperature fell from 20 at 8 PM to 15 by 6 AM with a light wind easing from yesterday’s harsher conditions.

Representative Arnold Weds in Jacksonville

Burial for Prof Jacob H Forney Follows Springville Tragic Death

Blaze kills 15-year-old Santa at Salvation Army event

In Chicago, 15 year old Forest Gale attached to the Salvation Army died after his Santa Claus costume ignited near a Christmas tree during a charity ball in Hamilton Ohio. He wore cotton rolls as a beard and was lighting gifts when a candle flames caught his attire. He died twenty minutes after being taken to hospital.

Salvation Army Children Days Activities Planned

Tomorrow and Monday the Salvation Army hosts children days with an open air at 10 a.m. and a hall meeting at 11 a.m. A children's meeting at 2 p.m. and further open air at 3 p.m. lead to a 4 p.m. subject David and a 6:45 p.m. open air. First Step Toward Seaboard Line Meeting Initiated

The city and Commercial club opened talks to secure the Seaboard Air Line main line for Annamiston. A six-member committee was formed to arrange a conference with railroad president Mr Barr, likely early next week for a definite plan. Also note Dixie Hardware Co advertises new lamps for sale.

Christmas Tree a Great Success at First Baptist

The annual Christmas tree event at the First Baptist church drew strong attendance last night in the church auditorium. The tree was the most beautiful and costly ever shown, with gifts totaling about three times those of prior years. The pastor and his family were especially remembered with many valuable presents, including a substantial cash gift from the ladies of the church.

Dec 27 report from Binm Min Guam states that from Jan 1 1903 soda fountain proprietors using wine or spirits in drinks must obtain a retail liquor dealer license and pay the saloon tax. Collector J O Thompson notes strict enforcement, ending permissive use of alcoholic flavors and expanding taxed syrups across dealers.

Man With Revolver Injunction Sparks Phone Row

In Columbus Ohio December 27 Pat Owen argued over debts by telephone. He pulled a pistol and threatened to shoot, prompting a call to police. McGwynn, using a phone in a St Clair street office, failed to settle a delinquency and was later fined 5 and costs for carrying concealed weapons.

Elam Drag Company Placed Under Receiver

BinnAineHam December 27. Judge Thomas G. Jones of the United States court named Sinnige as receiver for the Elam Drag company following a petition by creditors seeking involuntary bankruptcy. Dr. J. C. Legrand had earlier been appointed receiver by Chancellor Carmichael during a dissolution request. A bankruptcy petition then led to Judge Jones appointing the new receiver.
