Seina Dec 23 Mon James B Ellie grand chancellor of the Knights of Pythias of Alabama announces G G Miles of Montgomery appointed to grand keeper of records and seal after the death of John H Donahoe at Talladega on December 11. Miles serves on the ways and means committee and will hold the post at Talladega until the Birmingham grand lodge in May. salary 1500 dollars a year plus travel and clerk hire.
A medical advertisement claims Botanic Blood Balm cures blood poison cancer ulcers and skin diseases including eczema scabs and carbu ncles. It cites testimonies from Robert Ward of Maxer's Ga and A Williams of Roxbury plus offers free samples and a mail order to Blood Balm Co Deacribe tromble and free medical sent free in sealed letter with weekly tours to California and Portland Oregon details.
Washington reports President Roosevelt has not formally received or accepted a request from European powers to act as arbitrator in the Venezuela dispute. Officials say the powers are probing how he would respond to a formal proposal while awaiting a definite offer.

Ser' gt Whit Crook son of Judge and Mrs E F Crook is home after two and a half years of faithful service in the United States Army. He was honor ably discharged at Fort Apache Arizona last week and reached Anniston Saturday night. He visited Jacksonville before returning to Anniston. He enlisted after the Spanish American War and served in the Philippines and at Fort Apache. Crook rose to sergeant and company clerk and his return brings joy to many friends.
Port of Spain announces that Sir Courtenay Knollys will issue a royal gazette declaring war on Venezuela. The move formalizes the blockade and allows seizure of Venezuelan warships while neutral ships and goods must be spared.
Fifty passengers on a Burlington train from Denver to Deadwood were buried under ten feet of snow for twenty hours near Mercer Nebraska. Recovery work extended ten hours as rescuers reached the stranded party late last night. Mercer, a scant Nebr town, sheltered the travelers for that period, with aid sought from Sidney about 15 miles away.

Mr W F Roberts living north of the Net and Twine mill was assaulted and robbed about 10 30 near his home. A negro thief followed him and struck him with a rock then a stick. He took 35 cents and 6 dollars was left intact in a rear pocket. Roberts recovered but was not seriously injured. No suspect named.
