Postal Office in Montgomery Closes for Intra State Telegrams

The Montgomery office of the Postal Telegraph Cable Company has closed to intra state business. Messages are not accepted within Alabama and other points in Alabama cannot send telegrams here. An injunction by Judge Gaston Gunter takes effect with a $500 bond filing and lasts until December 31 or until the corporation pays the license and a percentage of collections on intrastate business. The company will appeal to the Alabama court of appeals, likely for submission at the end of the Montgomery division next week.

Alabama Tax Commission drivers larger state tax hike in 1914

Montgomery Dec 14 The state tax commission projects a 1914 rise in assessments by about 55 million dollars with state taxes rising roughly 367 500 and county taxes about 380 000 once the full year is complete. Montgomery December 14 Followers of B B Comer may gain a seat on January 18 as clerk of the Alabama railroad commission currently held by P Kennedy.
