A Black man named Lee Thomas, apparently mentally distraught, was hit by an L and N switch engine near the round house at 6 p.m. He was badly bruised with no broken bones. He was taken to Union depot and the company physician aided him. A letter in his pocket to the conductor of Southern train No. 16 suggested passing him on the train. He was sent to Birmingham hospital for care.
