Washington reports the destroyer Jacob Jones was torpedoed and sunk on December 6 at 8 p m while on patrol in foreign waters. Navy says 37 survivors have been found with early lists naming 10 men. about sixty crewmen unaccounted as deaths suspected. Commanding officer was Lt Cmdr David Worth Bagley.

Four Austrians were arrested by federal operatives in Chicago in connection with a warehouse fire on the South Side. The blaze began on the third floor of the five story building and gutted the warehouse within an hour. Names and charges withheld. report continued on page five.
The crew list includes Lieut. Jom K Richards Ensign Nelson N Gates Assistant Surgeon L L Adamekiewicz Charles K Pierce and others. The Jacob Jones saved 305 of 478 aboard the torpedoed Orama on October 19, 1917 during convoy escort duties under American destroyers. The ship, launched May 1916 and commissioned February 1917, is a 360 foot oil burning destroyer with turbine engines and over 30 knots speed. Secretary Daniels and family members expressed deep emotion at the loss and rescue effort.
The latest navy department reports publish the Jacob Jones crew list. Names and addresses include Harold Williams Aagaard of Elizabeth New Jersey and Henry P. Anderson from Belding Michigan among others.
