Grover White and kin arrested after Mountaintop confrontation

Deputies and a United States Marshal seized Grover White and two associates in a county jail raid after a mountain still standoff. The arrests followed a gunfire incident near a moonshine operation near Turkey Heaven, with more warrants expected and search for additional suspects.

Arch Henderson Dies in South Carolina at 84

Arch Henderson longtime Anniston and Birmingham resident died Thursday at Society Hill South Carolina after health decline. He was a founder of the Anniston golf club and a partner in the Explorations Company selling diamond drills with Hendersons. Unmarried, his mother and sister live in Washington D C. Burial expected at Louety Bell, old family home.

Supersedeas Bond Filed Over Montgomery Light Case

Attorneys for the Montgomery Light and Traction Company filed a federal court supersedeas bond to stay an injunction. The bond delays enforcement of a decree forcing the company to buy power from Montgomery Light and Water Power when it used its own, while the appeal before the U S Court of Appeals proceeds. Judge Henry D. Clayton will rule after considering the offer.

Drennen Death Stuns Birmingham Business Community

D. M. Drennen president of the Drennen department store in Birmingham died suddenly of heart failure at the Birmingham Country Club while watching golf. J. B. Carrington, former Chamber of Commerce leader, and O. H. Parker paid tribute. Drennen was noted as devout, honest, and integral to church and civic life. Dispatches also report broader World War I updates from Constantinople to Rheims with casualties, French actions, and German responses.
