Special to The Star reports Oxford welcomes the second semi annual 1st district Knights of Pythias convention on August 23. Committees are named for executive finance decoration reception entertainment and refreshment music badge and Rathbone delegates from Rathbone Lodge 68 and from Anniston and Calhoun lodges with selected local lodge appointees.
The Massachusetts state federation of labor met in Boston to decide its fall campaign strategy. It will question congressional and other candidates on labor issues, pledging support only to those with satisfactory answers, and represents about 890 local unions statewide.
Morgan’s men gather for the annual reunion in Louisville Kentucky with attendees recounting service and shared memories. The event marks another year of fellowship and remembrance among former comrades.
Special to The Star Birmingham August 14 Following the defalcation of paying teller Alex Chisholm who tapped the till of the First National Bank for 100000 the shortage was disclosed yesterday and there was no run today. Chisholm spent a restless night in custody of federal deputies and held a tearful conference with his parents. Fourteen shares valued 3500 were transferred to the bank. Federal officials pursue action though the bank’s lawyers may refrain from prosecuting.
Alex R. Chisholm, a Birmingham bank teller from a prominent local family, is under arrest for embezzling 100000 dollars from the First National Bank. Warrants the P G Smith W L Sims and a Mr Hays are issued for complicity. Chisholm confesses the funds went into local stock on cotton exchanges and the bank's finances remain sound.
Telegraph reports heavy excitement in Stanley County after Pittsburg capitalists lease 4000 acres for oil and natural gas. Machinery will be shipped immediately to drill the first well at Palestine, marking a major energy development in the region.
The Kansas City division of the Railway Postal Clerks association opens a four-state convention covering Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado. Delegates from the region gather to discuss issues and organizational business.

The First National Bank of Birmingham reports a teller Chisholm shortage of 97 225 after cash turned in and insurance 630 000 covering 67 225. Bank preserves 400 000 surplus and undivided profits 77 452.73 and expects possible recovery from implicated brokers.
In Houston the regular Texas Republicans meet to nominate a state ticket and plan the campaign. Charles W. Ogden of Bexar County is slated for the gubernatorial nomination as factions form under State Chairman Cecil A. Lyon. The event marks a rift with Lyon’s leadership as anti Lyon Republicans organize.
In Park Hill Nicholas county veterans who served under Gen. John Morgan gathered for an annual reunion to swap war stories and renew friendships with Gen. Basil W. Duke as chief speaker. Of Morgan’s 5 000-man command barely a fifth survive.
The Prohibition state convention met in Terrell with strong attendance. Delegates and visitors will name candidates for statewide offices and map plans for a vigorous fall campaign ahead of the November election.

The Confederate Veterans of Northeast Alabama planned a major reunion in Calhoun County shifting the date to the 18th and 19th. Judge James T Greene will issue the formal call, with U D C invited to join and Dave Jennings of Beat 11 named officer of the day. A barbecue is planned on the second day.
