Springfield reports eleven more Illinois mines shut down due to labor difficulties, leaving three thousand miners idle. In Kansas City, 600 strikebreakers moved out under police supervision as streetcar workers remain on strike and officials seek a settlement. The conflict intensified with brick and missile barrages at tram barns and a tense public atmosphere.
Washington report notes administration aimed to force a show down on pacifist opposition led by Senator Lafollette. Senate leaders consider tabling the Lafollette resolution to demonstrate support for the administration amid war protests. Religious objectors and draft resisters will be sent to cantonments and assigned noncombat tasks. Wilson to decide their status.
Allied forces report heavy raids at sea with casualties and wounded as Germans battle for Miolov ia and Phavinges while civilians including women and children are affected.
British forces destroyed two German planes from Sunday’s raid. About 20 German aircraft attacked the southeast coast of England with bombs near Southend and Margate, causing no reported damage or casualties beyond several injuries in Rockford and more than twenty deaths with fifty six wounded at the resorts. French aviators retaliated by bombing Frankfurt.
Street car workers intended to return to work under a new agreement but rejected it claiming insufficient union recognition. The Springfield Consolidated Railway Company had proposed a wage increase but the settlement was signed by an improperly accredited committee. Leaders of 18 coal miners unions voted to call a sympathy strike affecting mines dependent on the railway power.
In San Francisco on August 13 striking IT men of the United Railroads said new members joined the walkout while company crews kept schedules. About 400 strikers were reported out. They demand an eight hour day and wage readjustment. No derailed services were reported.
Dr. Walter L. Hervey directed a Sunday song and prayer service at Camp McClellan assisted by Frank Jones ukulele players and local singers. About 500 camp builders attended in a large mess hall with Singers and speakers. brief addresses were given by Dr. Hervey Mr. Dodge and Rev. Mr. Dunseath. Future meetings are planned and a complete Y M C A outline will be published in The Star.
Provost Marshal Crowder announced the delay was to avoid congestion from Labor Day excursions. The notice explains the change in the cantonment start date from September 1 to the new September date.
About forty women gathered at the Alabama Hotel to hear M B Trezevant outline the Chamber of Commerce canvass for more homes for visiting families expected with the camp. He urged hosts to shelter wives and sisters of the troops and called for dormitory space for twenty two distressed teachers.
City women plan to register next Wednesday per Mayor Scarbrough’s proclamation. Registration sites include Firemans Hall W 15th with Miss Thompson and Miss Ledbetter, The Fair with Mrs Hoyt Shaw, Berman's Mission Cook with Mrs R L Hughes, Red Cross Room with Mrs F McIntyre, and other locations in Oxford Oxanna Blue Mountain City. Registration hours are 9:00 to 12:30 and 3:00 to 6:00 p m.
Real estate transfers listed include E Garner to J B Shelnutt for two lots on Tenth street and Moore avenue valued at 6500 dollars, L B Liles to W W Weaver for Lot 2 Block 507 on Christine street for 1200 dollars, and T L Glenn to Alberta S Brice for north half of Lot 4 Block 428 on Wilmer avenue for 2400 dollars. Rumors of large, sensational deals circulate though documents are not filed.
Zurich reports Philip Scheidemann leader of the Socialists in Germany calls for a parliamentary government. He demands the resignation of Vice Chancellor Helfferich and concentration of authority in the Reichstag.

Oscar W. Price thanks Miss Yeatman for proposing the name Peace Loan Bonds for the second war bonds issue to differ from Liberty Bonds. Miss Yeatman, the first Anniston girl to offer enlistment, may be called to serve when needed.
Mrs. M. B. Shipp of Albertville fell into an Alabama hotel elevator shaft Sunday morning. She stepped into the open shaft door, thinking the elevator was inside, and dropped to the basement. She suffered bruises judged painful and possibly serious but was resting easily at last word.
Paris dated dispatch describes Belgian artillery duels north of Bixschoote with no infantry fights. French reconquer trenches north of Fayet and Noisy Farm, capturing prisoners. Attacks south of Ailles repulsed with enemy losses, while Meuse and Champagne sectors see heavy bombardment. Civilians killed and wounded in Rheims as artillery fire spans the city.
