Hanging In Camden Ends After Three Hours

A black man named Jim Stewart was hanged in Camden Wilcox County after a three hour ordeal. The rope slipped and he cried for a second drop as his attempted execution failed, drawing a large crowd around the jail. He was finally pronounced dead after the third ascent. In Memphis Mississippi voters chose H D Money for Senate and James K Vardaman for governor in a Democratic primary with lengthy returns and a crowded ticket.

Wealthy Man Admitted to County Poor House

Andrew Murray of Brooklyn, reputed to own property worth thousands and denied admission to hotels and hospitals due to cancer, was admitted to the county poor house in Binghamton, New York, after arriving with pockets full of bills.
