Church listings show St Patrick’s Catholic Church offering services Sunday at 11 a.m. and a 7:30 p.m. Holy Day, with daily 7:30 a.m. masses. Other congregations include Avondale with 9 a.m. service and 9:45 a.m. Sunday School, Bridgewater at 10 a.m. service and 11 a.m. Sunday School. Massena hosts 11 a.m. church service and 10 a.m. Sunday School.
The Massena Ambulance Corps attended three incidents this week. Lewis Ryan was taken to Cass County Memorial Hospital and is reported improving. Bob Olsen was knocked unconscious by a horse but recovered before hospital treatment. Mrs. Hattie Chapman was also transported to the hospital. An on Main Street collision between a tractor loader and a car caused extensive damage with no injuries.
The Class of 1936 37 plans a reunion at the Redwood on July 2 at 7 30 p m. Michael Conrad, grandson of Mrs Leola Anderson of Massena, was inducted into the National Honor Society at John A O Connell School of Technology in San Francisco California. The induction ceremony occurred Thursday June 2 in the Helen Shrabak Library at O Connell.
Mr and Mrs Bill Clinton represent Massena Cooperative Company of Massena Iowa at a three day Lakes Conference management development seminar June 8 11 at Lake Okoboji Iowa The event sponsored by Land O Lakes Agricultural Services brings together supervisor level staff from member cooperatives across six Midwest states with the theme The Future Is Now and emphasizes cooperative planning energy livestock crop production and regulatory impacts Hospitalized Jerrold Spieker undergoes tests at Clarkson Hospital Omaha this week
The Jensen family reunion met June 12 at the Boy Scout cabin in Sunnyside Park with 61 attendees from Massena Atlantic Cumberland Scranton Carroll Carlisle Corning Norwalk Indianola Audubon Shelby Iowa Omaha and Bellevue Nehr. President Kenneth Jensen and secretary Walter Thomsen led a program where members shared early family life memories. New officers elected were Dianne Johnson of Omaha president Marvin Jensen Massena vice president and Nadine Jensen Massena secretary-treasurer. Next year’s reunion is planned for the second Sunday in June at the Ross Camblia Addition to Sunnyside Park in Atlantic. Included Massena attendees: Kenneth Jensen Amy Roger Holaday Cynthia Lynnette Scott Billy William Holaday Anna Hoyt Louise McLaren Leon Jensen and Marvin Jensen.
Sparkettes met at the Fire Station Monday June 6 with Nancy Cullen as president and Phyllis Ruppette as vice president. Upcoming events include an ice cream social July 10 with Cumberland Fire Dept Auxiliary and a semi annual kitchen cleanup June 29 at 1 30 pm. A surprise birthday party honored Mrs Gene McMullen on June 5 with numerous relatives from across the country attending.

The Massena library reports 32 registrations on day one of the Summer Reading Contest with registration open through Saturday. A misprint corrected hours show Tuesday through Saturday 1 30 to 4 30 p m during the contest. New books arrive weekly and a SWIRLS loaned painting awaits viewing. A community family outing featured attendees from Massena Omaha Anita and Lewis with a rain softened picnic and a weiner roast at various hosts. The June 11 host family dinner and a May 22 graduation reception were noted along with Sunshine Club activities, prayers and a park breakfast planned for July 2.
Lori Boeck daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Boeck of Masena underwent knee surgery Friday at Jennie Edmundson Hospital Council Bluffs and hopes to be home soon. Pine Grove United Methodist Women met at Mrs Verner Walters June 2 with lessons on dreams and visions of the Bible and serving others. Mrs Elmer Pont led a talk on What are you doing about dreams and visions. Seventeen people attended including 15 members and one guest Mrs Dorothy Royle. Lunch was served. Later, Mr and Mrs Richard Bissell Denver Cathy Karen and Nancy Denver Colorado and Mr and Mrs Royce Bissell Greenfield visited the Bissell home for Sunday night supper with David Bissell family.
