Mildred Brendel Seeks Administratrix of Young Estate

Mrs Mildred Brendel through Newton and Budd files in Cass county clerk's office Atlantic for appointment as administratrix of the estate of James W Young 59 retired farmer and Anita native who died by his own hand in a Little Rock Arkansas tourist camp. She claims major part of the 12000 estate as his common law wife. Brendel was with Young when he shot himself behind the left ear leaving 7000 in bonds and 2500 in cash.

Cass County Republicans Nominate Slate In Low-Turnout Primary

Jones wins county attorney nomination with 1506 votes while Ziegler and DeWitt trail. G H Allen tops Kringel for county auditor. Pelzer beats Holton for state senator with 1489 to 1206. Wiese and Zellmer win supervisor nominations. Odem reemerges as Democrat for sheriff. Eshelman unopposed for Republican supervisor. other county posts filled in fraction of voters.

Metz and Winder Win Supervisoral Nominations

In a Monday primary the Democrats renominated Mike Metz for supervisor with 226 votes to 82 for C. E. Parker of Anita. Metz carried four of five precincts including Franklin township. Parker won his Grant No. 2 home precinct. Chester T. Winder won the Republican nomination for supervisor with 393 votes to 303 for Everett B. Luman and J. E. Jordan, while other county races listed include coroner Kitson Edwards and top votegetters Breeling Skipton Pelzer, with unopposed Democratic nominees for auditor treasurer and county attorney. For Cass county state representation the races saw G. T. Kuester renominated by Republicans and Fred J. Groves by Democrats, each unopposed.

Smither Takes Postmastership in Anita

Anita posts new postmaster George Smither, age forty six, replacing Ed L Newton after thirteen years. Smither, a Lincoln township native and lifelong Democrat, runs a produce business now led by his son Claude. Assistant William T Biggs stays in place. Local prizes paid out that Saturday include Ed Darrow winning $10 and multiple $1 prizes to residents.

Death for Anita area woman aged 75

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Thomas T. Logan 75 of Anita born Alice Bell White in 1860. She died of heart trouble and high blood pressure at her sister’s home south west of the city. Interment in Evergreen cemetery. Survivors include three sisters and several nieces and nephews. Also noted were services and pallbearers for the funeral and musical selections performed. A second obituary notes James T. Furman 72, former Anita resident, died at Hill's Retreat in Des Moines, with funeral set for Anita's Methodist church and Evergreen cemetery interment. Also included: a theft from the Congregational church parsonage, a windstorm damage report, and farm building destruction near Anita.
