S V Metheny, mail carrier on Rural Route No 2 out of Anita, has been reappointed for two more years from October 9 1924. His long service includes twenty years six months, and he remains active and well, with a history of reliable, punctual deliveries and leadership in the Cass County Rural Carriers Association.

Passing of James Sheley Civil War veteran dies at 88

After weeks of illness James Sheley longtime Anita resident and Civil War veteran died at his home on September 11 at nine in the morning. He was born May 22 1836 in James town Ohio and came to Iowa in 1854 settling near Montezuma. He leaves ten children and was buried at Evergreen cemetery after services at the Anita Congregational church led by Rev. John W. Ferner with Obedience Lodge AFM No 380 in charge at the grave.

Walter S Sherman Celebrates 85th Birthday in Garfield

Walter S Sherman pioneer of Cass county Iowa moved to Washington state long ago. Relatives and friends gathered at the Sherman home in Garfield to honor his eighty fifth birthday. Children and grandchildren joined a Sunday school penny box tribute from local youngsters.

Former Anita Lady Quite Ill After Pneumonia Battle

Mrs Pearl Salisbury wife of Dr Fred G Salisbury of Hanley Saskatchewan Canada is critically ill at her parents home in San Pedro California. She had been recovering from a major operation when pneumonia developed and doctors warned of seriousness. Her husband now travels from Hanley likely to join her in California. Mrs Salisbury formerly lived in Anita and is sister of Mrs Ed Blakesley. Dr Salisbury once practiced dentistry in Griswold.

Old Time Friends Meet Again in Atlantic Visit

Dr. and Mrs. W. S. Greenleaf and daughter Eloise of Atlantic, with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Gardner and sons Max and LeMar, visited J. F. Scarlett and family. They recalled memories with Mr. and Mrs. W. S. James of San Antonio, Texas during a Sunday gathering.

Whiteway-7 Highway Work Expands In Cass County

Frank Eblen and his crews grade sections to extend the Whiteway-7 highway from Anita to Wiota. The Cass county Board of Supervisors ordered the project weeks ago. The plan reduces corner turns and lays a bee line from Wiota east to meet the Atlantic Cemetery road.

By order of the Board of Trustees three farms in Lincoln township were last week cleared of the 1924 crop of cockle bars and the expense taxed to landowners. This action may spread statewide to owners who fail to cut tall weeds along highways bordering their property.

Leon G. Voorhees and his family arrived in Anita Saturday coming from Lake Okoboji where Mrs. Voorhees and the children spent the summer at their cottage. After visiting relatives they plan to drive home to Ardmore Oklahoma where Mr. Voorhees is president of the First National Bank.

The entire school was dismissed at 1 30 PM Friday to participate in the Defense Day event. They marched in double file to Conecert Park and were dismissed for the afternoon. The orderly procession drew police notice and praise from all.

Mrs. Elias Brickley, longtime Anita resident, remains in remarkably good health at 104. She is mother to Mrs. John C. Young of this city, and lived many years in Anita before moving west.

A Bills family reunion gathered forty six members at Sunnyside Park Atlantic on Sunday.
