Illinois Waterway Bond Work Advances With Locks and Dams

The Illinois Waterway project proceeds under Governor Small's direction with bids for Lockport and Marseilles locks. The plan calls for four dams and five locks along the Des Plaines and Illinois rivers, 110 by 600 feet, 14 feet deep, enabling 9 000 ton cargo moves from New Orleans to Chicago. The project aims to stay under the 20 million dollar bond authorization while court cases and land acquisitions proceed.
