Civil War Vet Answers Taps Fire Destroys Farm House

Abraham Biggs, Civil War veteran born in Shreve Ohio in 1844, died June 20 1928 at his Anita Iowa home after a long life of farming and public service. Funeral services were held at the M E church with honors. his family and community mourn his loss. A barn and farm house near Anita were destroyed by fire on a Sunday morning, with partial insurance and substantial valued heirlooms lost.

California Trio Visits Anita Relatives Before Canada Trip

Val Kraemer his wife and son from Long Beach California arrived in Anita last week to stay with Mrs Kraemer’s brothers W D Pratt and R C Pratt and other relatives and friends. They lived in the Anita vicinity for years before moving to Canada and then California. They will proceed to Canada to manage retained real estate interests and then return to California.

Original Sunshine Club meets for sewing at Anita home

Mrs J H Trimmer hosted twenty Original Sunshine Club members at her Anita area home on Thursday. Charter member Mrs Chas Scholl attended as a welcome visitor. After a one o'clock dinner the group sewed and visited. Next meeting set for Wednesday July 11 at Mrs Norraine Duff's home.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey A. Delahoyde of Omaha announce the betrothal of their daughter Drusa Delahoyde to Quentin Harold Moore son of Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Moore. The wedding is planned for early fall. Drusa is a Central High School and Stephens College alumna and has dramatics honors. Moore is a Dartmouth College graduate. Escaped Injury in Smashup Near Adair

Carl Litterst a noted Atlantic band man narrowly escaped serious injury when a wheel came off his car on Federal Highway 32 east of Adair Tuesday forenoon. He traveled with his wife and grandson who received a bruise on the lip. repairs were made and the trip continued.

Miss Jennie Boatright Retired From Anita Public School Relation

From Ohio and Kentucky Misses Mary and Jennie Boatright of Russell Ohio visited the Stuhr family in Anita. Miss Jennie, formerly a public school teacher in Anita, has been retired from active service by the Berea College board with full pay and will join the pension roll next year. The sisters are siblings of Geo W Boatright once Rock Island agent in Anita, now in Stuart Iowa.

Mrs. Pearl Clovis Republican nominee for Auditor of Cass County met voters in Anita on Saturday during the June primary race. She plans a county wide canvas before the November election for the two year term starting January 1 1929 and seeks broad support from local voters.

Guthrie Center representative Hon Ear W Vincent visited Anita on Wednesday after being elected to fill the unexpired term of Wm R Green ending March 4 1929. Millhollin Injured In Horse Incident Near Adair

Ernest Millhollin son of the late Mr and Mrs John Millhollin long-time Anita residents was seriously hurt last week when kicked by a horse while working on a road crew south of Adair He was rushed to Cres ton hospital for surgery after a punctured intestine was found His condition is serious He has a wife seven sons and is nephew of Mrs W D Pratt Mrs Samuel Howlett and Marsh Millhollin of this city.

State Judicial Convention in Cedar Rapids

The Republican state Judicial convention will nominate four Supreme Court candidates in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday July 25. Chief Justice Truman Stevens from the southwest, W. D Evans and J. W Kindig for the full term, Henry Wagner for the short term to fill Justice Vermillion’s vacancy. No opposition shown. renomination likely. Supreme Court salary is $7,500 per year.

Driver sought in fatal hit and run near Moorland Iowa

Myles Lowell a well known citizen and businessman of Anita was killed when his tire was being changed on U S Highway 20 near Moorland Iowa on June 8. Police chief Flattery and Sheriff Tullar continue the probe seeking the driver of the death car believed not to be soon identified. A man questioned by authorities was released after explaining his whereabouts that night.

Anita girl to teach public school music after Drake Conservatory

Miss Dorothy Dinsmore, a former Anita High School student and Drake Conservatory of Music graduate, will take a public school music instructor post. She has been violinist with Leon Garber's Entertainers and performed at conventions in Des Moines and on WHO broadcasts, earning a growing local reputation.

Former Wiota Man Weds in Secret Spring Ceremony

Former Wiota resident Merrill Burnette son of Rev C S Burnette of Stuart and ex pastor of Wiota church married Mrs George Gilbert of Pierson Town in early spring. The couple kept the wedding secret until after school closed as Burnette was a Morningside College senior and Miss Gilbert a teacher in Orange City Iowa. Alma Brooks, daughter of long time Wiota residents Marion and Mrs Brooks, later moved to Atlanta where Mr Brooks died months ago.

Death removes Civil War veteran Abe Biggs a former Cass county supervisor and Anita resident. Born in Ohio he served the Union and settled in Cass county in 1870 returning after a sojourn there. He lived a long useful life devoted to service and his memory honors the flag and the nation.

Zed Coomes son of the late Oll Coomes a Wiota pioneer and Mrs Coomes daughter of the Loves of Atlantic spent the past week with relatives in Cass County. He is a Webster South Dakota lawyer who has served two terms as state's attorney elected by large majorities.

Miss Nellie Miller daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank W Miller of Audubon married Clyde A White of Anita at the M E parsonage Carroll Town on June 21 1928 at 2 30 pm Rev Arthur Eastman officiated with Misses Daisy Hyde and Glennie Haskins as witnesses. White works as a linotype operator at the Anita Tribune office and the couple will settle in Anita.
